Solid & Striped is the New York swim label built on clean lines. One-pieces, bikinis and resort styles cut with the kind of restraint that makes them work for a decade rather than a season.

Most swimwear chases a trend and looks dated in two summers. Solid & Striped does the opposite. Clean shapes, considered colour, and cut so that construction does the work rather than hardware and embellishment.
The result is swimwear you buy once and wear for years, which is unusual in a category most people replace annually.
One-pieces are the label’s strength. Sculpted seaming, plunging and square necklines, and open backs give them real presence, and they carry straight from the water into lunch with a skirt or a wide-leg trouser over the top.
Bikinis run from minimal triangle shapes to structured, higher-coverage styles. Buying separates rather than sets lets you size the top and bottom independently, which solves a problem most women have.
Ribbed and textured fabrics hold their shape longer and hide more than flat ones, and they read as more expensive than they are.
Cover-ups and resort pieces are what turn a swimsuit into an outfit for a boat, a hotel bar or dinner.
Solid & Striped generally runs true to size, and the cut is closer to the body than a mass-market swim label.
If you are between sizes, size down in stretch-heavy styles and size up in structured or underwired ones.
For one-pieces, torso length is the measurement that matters and the one nobody checks. A suit short through the body pulls at the shoulders and the crotch at the same time, and no amount of adjustment fixes it. If you are long through the torso, look for styles with adjustable straps.
Support comes from construction rather than fabric weight. If you want real support, look for underwire, boning or a wide band rather than assuming thicker material will do it.
Pale and white styles become more sheer when wet. Check the lining before buying if you plan to swim rather than sit.
Rinse in cold water after every wear, including chlorine and salt. Both degrade elastane, and the damage is cumulative rather than sudden.
Dry flat, never in a dryer and never in direct sun. Heat destroys recovery and sun fades dye.
Sunscreen, particularly the oil-based and high-SPF formulas, stains swimwear permanently. Let it absorb before dressing.
The general rule is one suit for every two days so you always have a dry one. Choose within a related palette and your cover-ups, sandals and jewelry work across all of them rather than one each.
