Dressing for Each Event

Engagement party. The first time you are the bride in the room, and usually the least formal of the events. A white midi or a structured mini both work, depending on whether the party is at a restaurant or someone’s home.

Bridal shower. Daytime, often photographed heavily, frequently floral. Softer silhouettes and lighter fabrics suit the setting, and a midi length photographs well seated, which is most of a shower.

Bachelorette. This is where you can have the most fun. A shorter length, sequins or embellishment, and something you can move in. If the weekend involves travel, choose fabrics that survive a suitcase.

Rehearsal dinner. The most formal of the pre-wedding events, and the one where guests will be dressed up. A polished midi or an elevated shorter dress in a refined fabric.

Welcome party. Similar to the rehearsal dinner but usually a step down in formality, and often outdoors. Consider the venue and the temperature.

Honeymoon and after-party. Something easy, packable, and white.

Why White, and When Not To

White is yours for the entire wedding period, and most brides lean into it across every event. That said, ivory, champagne, blush and pale gold all read as bridal without being literal, and they photograph beautifully against the white you will be wearing on the day itself.

If your events run across seasons, remember that a white summer fabric and a white winter fabric look very different in photographs. Crepe, satin and jacquard carry into cooler months. Cotton, eyelet and lightweight chiffon belong to warm weather.
