How We Choose

We are not a beauty retailer, and this section reflects that. Rather than carrying a line, we stock individual pieces that earn their place: the lip colour that works on everyone, the product that finishes a look before an event, the thing customers ask us about after seeing it in the store.

It is a short list on purpose, and it changes as we find better options.

Getting Ready for an Event

The most common question we get is what to do differently for a formal evening, and the answer is less than people expect.

Photographs are the reason to adjust anything. Flash flattens the face and washes out colour, so whatever looks right in a mirror often reads as underdone in pictures. A slightly stronger lip and more definition around the eyes than you would normally wear is usually the correction.

Anything with a high SPF or a strong light-reflecting finish can flash back white in photographs. Worth testing with your phone camera before the event rather than discovering it in someone else’s pictures afterward.

Long events need staying power more than anything else. A lip you can reapply from a clutch matters more than one that photographs perfectly at hour one.

If your dress has an open back or a light-coloured fabric, be careful with anything you apply to the body. Transfer onto a gown is difficult to reverse.
