Cocktail and midi styles are the most rewearable thing here. A midi in a solid colour will get pulled out several times a year, which is where the value sits.

Shorter styles carry parties, welcome events and celebrations where the dress code is festive rather than formal.

Getting the Most From It

A dress at this price responds unusually well to two things.

Alterations. Fifty dollars with a tailor on a dress at this price transforms it more than the same money spent on a more expensive dress. Take in the waist, adjust the strap length, hem it to your shoe. That is where the difference between looking dressed and looking fitted comes from.

Accessories. Real jewelry, a structured clutch and a good shoe elevate an accessible dress considerably. Nobody photographs the label. They photograph the whole look, and three of the four elements can be pieces you already own and will keep.

Styling Notes

Keep the accessories deliberate. A well-chosen earring and a proper clutch do more here than they do with an expensive dress, because they are carrying more of the look.

Solid colours read as more expensive than busy prints at this price point. If you want to spend once and wear it repeatedly, choose the solid.

Check the fabric drape in photographs before ordering. Anything that clings without structure is the most common disappointment in this category, and it is usually visible in the product images if you look for it.

Sizing and Fit

She + Sky generally runs true to size, though fit varies more between styles than it does with a single-designer collection. Each product page lists the fit and the size the model is wearing.

If you are between sizes, size up and have it taken in. Letting a dress out is difficult. Taking one in is straightforward and inexpensive.
