Choosing a Piece for Your Occasion

For formal weddings and evening receptions, the tiered gowns are the strength of the collection. The Elysia in black-green floral is a good example of how a dark botanical print reads as formal rather than summery, and works particularly well for vineyard, garden and estate celebrations.

For cocktail attire and daytime celebrations, the midi dresses do the most work. Off-the-shoulder and short-sleeve silhouettes carry an afternoon ceremony into an evening reception without a change.

For rehearsal dinners and welcome parties, the mini and shorter styles are the right register. Polished without being formal.

For events that call for texture, the embellished tweed pieces are worth a look. Tweed reads as considered in a way plain fabric does not, and it suits cooler months.

For separates, the blazer and skort pieces work together or split across the rest of your wardrobe.

Styling Notes

Print does the work, so let it. A floral or botanical ELLIATT dress needs a plain shoe, a plain bag and one accessory. Matching a shoe to a colour in the print is the most common mistake and it rarely reads well.

Off-the-shoulder necklines leave open space at the collarbone, which is one of the few cases where a bold necklace works. If you go that way, keep the earrings small.

Tiered gowns have volume through the skirt, so keep the top half quiet. Statement earrings and nothing else.

For the embellished tweed pieces, skip additional sparkle entirely. The texture is the statement.

Sizing and Fit

ELLIATT generally runs true to size, and the cut is more forgiving than most Australian occasion labels. Where Zhivago or Acler will hold you close through the ribcage, ELLIATT tends to skim.

Tiered and volume styles have room built in, so size for your bust and shoulders rather than your waist.

Gown lengths are cut for a heel, so budget for a hem if you are under about 5’5″ or plan to wear something lower.

Care

Most pieces are dry clean only. Printed fabrics hold colour better with dry cleaning than washing.

Embellished tweed should be stored on a padded hanger and kept in a garment bag, since the embellishment catches on everything nearby.

Tiered styles should be hung rather than folded, or the tiers keep a crease line that is difficult to press out without flattening the volume.
